Gallop Into The World of Horses: Toxic Foods for Horses

 TOXIC FOOD FOR HORSES

Welcome to our new blog, where we will explore the foods that are toxic to our beloved horses. Sometimes, we assume that these majestic animals can enjoy any type of food, but the reality is different. Therefore, I present to you a summary of those foods that could cause discomfort in horses.

Firstly, chocolate, known to be toxic for both dogs and horses. The ingestion of large quantities of chocolate can be fatal for horses, even leading to positive doping tests during competitions.

Secondly, meat, as horses are herbivores, and their digestive system is not prepared to process this type of food.

In third place, dairy products. Adult horses are lactose intolerant, and the consumption of dairy products can cause problems in their digestive system.

It is also crucial to prevent horses from consuming products intended for humans, such as bread and cakes, as these processed foods can cause stomach obstructions and colic.

On the other hand, avocados are another forbidden food, as both the fruit and the tree contain persin, a substance derived from fatty acids that can cause irregular heartbeats, difficulty breathing, neurological dysfunction, and even death.

Finally, potatoes should be excluded from the equine diet, as they contain solanine, a toxic glycoalkaloid for horses.

This summarizes the main foods that our equine friends should avoid. Let's remember the importance of knowing these restrictions to ensure their well-being. I hope you have found this information useful! Until the next installment, horse lovers!
